Teaching Awards

Each year, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) awards outstanding staff with awards for demonstrated excellence and contribution in teaching and learning. Applicants are nominated by their heads of department and must submit both a written application, addressing several key selection criteria, and an oral presentation demonstrating their teaching in action at the annual FEIT Learning and Teaching Forum.

Awards are given in the following two categories

  • Academic Staff Award for Teaching Excellence
  • Sessional Staff Award for Teaching Excellence

Academic Staff Award for Teaching Excellence selection criteria

  • Approaches to teaching that influence, motivate and inspire students to learn
  • Development of curricula and resources that reflect a command of the field
  • Approaches to assessment and feedback that foster independent learning
  • Respect and support for the development of students as individuals
  • Scholarly activities that have influenced and enhanced learning and teaching

Sessional Staff Award for Teaching Excellence selection criteria

  • Engages learners by asking questions that stimulate deep learning
  • Provides purpose for what is to be learned in a way that motivates and inspires
  • Generates a welcoming and safe learning environment for all learners
  • Communicates clearly what is expected of the learner
  • Plans the tutorial to ensure that the intended outcomes are met
  • Offers comprehension checks for immediate and constructive feedback
  • Explains concepts in a clear, sequentially developed way
  • Facilitates in ways that promotes increasing learner independence
